Success in reading is fundamental to success in school. Reading is all about acquiring meaning: for enjoyment, information and understanding.’

We have all come across pupils who read at age-appropriate levels but who struggle to comprehend what they are reading. ‘Reading Beyond the Words’ workshop is a practical 90 minute workshop, that looks at the processes involved in reading comprehension and why some pupils struggle to read for meaning. The workshop provides delegates with a balance of information as well as activities and strategies on how to best support pupils who find comprehension difficult. The content is based on current research and thinking.

‘Laura’s training was practical, active and involving. We all felt empowered by the session and left with plenty of practical ideas and resources to use with our students.’  (Tess Palfreyman, Chair of North Herts – Mid Beds Patoss)

‘The training provided clear information about the barriers and difficulties children face when developing their comprehension skills. It also gives practical strategies to improve comprehension skills, that can be easily put in place at very little cost. Teachers and TAs from my school commented on how empowered they felt and they were going to use the strategies straight away!’ (Antonia Crawley)
